If you ever have tried to implement a good and not too expensive system for watering orchids growing in living-rooms you probably know about the problems. A very good solutions is a fogging system for wardian cases. One of our friends told us how to modify a humidifier to guide the mist into the wardian case. To reduce the necessary care of the plants in the case we use a programmable timer which turns on the humidifier 3 times a day for 15 minutes.

What do you need ?
What´s important when you buy the humidifier ?
Total cost: 100 - 150 Euro
Sometimes you can find very cheap used humidifers at flea markets.
Modifying the humidifier:
Before you start modifying your humidifier you should check which option to guide the mist into your wardian case will be better:
The two pictures below show how to modify the humidifier - one fixed tube or several flexible tubes fixed into a foam rubber block.

When you have finished modifying the fog outlets from the humidifier you can start to install the programmable timer. We use a BH-840E humidifier (0,3 litres/hour) for our wardian case (45x45x100cm) and it runs 3 times a day (each time for 15 minutes).
